Friend Fitness Program
Successful people have three common personal traits. They:
- Set challenging goals for themselves
- Are mentally tough, and resilient in the face of adversity
- Show respect for themselves and others by taking responsibility for their own actions
Friend Fitness, YMP’s signature mentoring program, is designed to instill these traits in each student. The program matches volunteer mentors with local teenagers who have varying fitness levels, personal backgrounds, and life circumstances, but that can all benefit from a positive adult role model.
Our unique approach combines intense weekly strength training workouts with challenging physical, academic, and social goal setting and achievement. The result? Students discover what it takes to be successful not only in the gym, but in life!

Friend Fitness is...
MENTORING:
Mentoring occurs both one-on-one and in groups.
INTENSE PHYSICAL FITNESS:
Meeting at local gyms, our students and mentors take part in a structured strength training and cardio workout - No physical abilities or past experience required!
FOCUSED GOAL SETTING & ACHIEVEMENT:
Goal setting is central to the mentor-student relationship and the growth of our students. Goals are set three times a year, focus on fitness, academic and/or social-behavioral achievement.
EARNED RECOGNITION:
A culture of high expectations, we celebrate “true” accomplishment. Students must “earn” recognition by achieving their goals.
POSITIVE:
From their first handshake and beyond their workout’s last exercise, mentors & staff encourage students to give 100% effort.
